Jared Woodfill

Jared Ryker Woodfill, V (born August 9, 1968),〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Jared Ryker Woodfill, V )〕 is an attorney from Houston, Texas, who from 2002 to 2014 was chairman of the Harris County Republican Party. He was known for social and fiscal conservative positions, including opposition to same-sex domestic partnerships and marriages.
==Background==

Woodfill's father, Jared, IV, is a former employee of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Houston who helped to return home the crew of the aborted Apollo 13 lunar mission in 1970. His mother, the former Betty Beck, is a former instructor at San Jacinto College. Woodfill graduated from Clear Lake High School, the University of Texas at Austin, and St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Jared Woodfill Biography )〕 Woodfill is affiliated with the firm Woodfill and Pressler, LLP. His law partner is the retired conservative jurist and active Southern Baptist layman Paul Pressler. Woodfill is a non-denominational Christian who attends the Houston megachurch, Lakewood. He is married to the former Celeste Marie Ponce.
In 2012, Woodfill faced a collection lawsuit from a New York City firm which claimed that he owed nearly $30 million for a loan on which he defaulted in 2010. The money was obtained to finance a suit filed by Woodfill against the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway on behalf of some residents of Somerville in Burleson County, who claim that BNSF caused their health problems. Woodfill and Pressler procured a loan of $5 million in March 2006 from a hedge fund that went out of business in 2010. Because of interest and other fees, the amount owed ballooned to more than $29 million.
